WORKSHOPS

The Curtain Rises on Summer Youth Workshops at
Hershey Theatre

Many accomplished actors found their love of acting through early theater classes. This summer, students will have the opportunity to follow in this tradition as they take to the stage during Hershey Theatre’s Youth Workshops. From the energy of backstage to the limelight of center stage, there is something for everyone.

"Sing Me A Story"
For students grades 9 – 12
Thursday, July 16 from 9 AM – 2 PM
Lunch is included
A summer workshop for the serious theatre or performance arts student! This session is geared toward high school students involved in drama and musical theatre and hoping to pursue as a career. Students must come prepared to perform two musical selections: an up tempo and a ballad that is reasonably age and gender appropriate. Students must also perform a one minute monologue.

Students will be given instruction on how to prepare for an audition: rehearsing for an audition, audition philosophy, audition dress and repertoire selection. After this informational session, students will proceed through the audition process using their prepared numbers. Those who audition will be placed into contention for the afternoon master Class. During that time frame, the students will perform their selection(s) in entirety and then be given a dual critique, both in voice and characterization.

“Can’t I Mime?”
For students grades 3-6
Friday, July 17 from 9 AM to Noon
Students will practice communicating without talking and then present a “silent” show for their families during this half-day introduction to pantomime and non-verbal communication.

The half-day workshop is $25; full-day workshops are $50 and include lunch. Students who enroll in both workshops will receive a discount: $10 off for grades 7-12; $5 off for grades 3-6. For more information or to register, please call 717.533.6299.
