DESCRIPTION:
Make George Balanchine's The Nutcracker a part of your family's holiday tradition!
Presented by Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet with the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra.
From the moment the curtain rises, you'll enter a land of toy soldiers, a Sugar Plum Fairy and snowflakes that come to life. Whether it's your first ballet or a family tradition, this holiday classic is sure to warm your family's hearts this season!
In addition, for the sixth year, CPYB will be presenting its three-dimensional and illuminated Christmas tree that grows to over 22 feet on stage. The tree features more than 250 clusters of lights, creating a stunning effect during the Act 1 Battle Scene.
George Balanchine, considered the choreographic genius of the twentieth century, choreographed The Nutcracker in the early 1950s. Balanchine's New York City Ballet gave its first performance of the ballet in February 1954. It is still recognized as one of the most complex theatrically-staged ballets in the New York City Ballet's repertory of over 150 works. CPYB's very own alumna and former NYC Ballet soloist dancer, Darla Hoover, will once again stage the performance. Hoover is a distinguished Repetiteur for the Balanchine Trust and worked first-hand with Mr. Balanchine.
George Balanchine's The Nutcracke is generously supported the Cultural Enrichment Fund, ABC27 and the PA Council on the Arts.
