Hershey Theatre Announces 2009-2010 Classic Film Series

(HERSHEY, PA) — Hershey Theatre has announced its 2009-2010 classic film series. A survey was conducted to have patrons submit their favorite film titles; the season is built from these choices. The season starts on October 24 at 11:59 PM when the 1975 classic Rocky Horror Picture Show is shown. This cult favorite stars Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, Richard O'Brien, and Meat Loaf. The film was elected for inclusion in the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films Hall of Fame in 1980 as well as the National Film Preservation Board of Library of Congress in 2005. For maximum enjoyment, audience participation bags will be available for purchase. (No outside props will be permitted).National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation will be shown on November 15 at 2:00 PM. This 1989 holiday classic was written by John Hughes, and stars Chevy Chase, Beverly D'Angelo, Juliette Lewis, Johnny Galecki, John Randolph, Diane Ladd, E. G. Marshall, Doris Roberts, Randy Quaid, William Hickey, Nicholas Guest, Julia Louis-Dreyfuss. In the spirit of the season, guests will be invited to bring a non-perishable food item for the local food bank.
The holiday week will feature the ultimate men in tights, when the 1938 classic The Adventures of Robin Hood is shown on December 27 at 2:00 PM. This adventure film stars Errol Flynn, Olivia de Havilland, Basil Rathbone, Claude Rains and Alan Hale, and won three Oscars for excellence including Best Art Direction, Best Film Editing, Best Music: Original Score. The classic Bugs Bunny cartoon Rabbit Hood will precede the feature.
The new year will be filled with romance, starting on January 16 when the 1990 film Ghost is shown at 7:30 PM. This romantic fantasy stars Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg, who won an Oscar as Best Actress in a Supporting Role. Because of the famous "penny" scene in the movie – and the miraculous plot – guests will be invited to create miracles of their own by bringing pennies to be donated to the Children's Miracle Network.
February will celebrate romance when An Affair to Remember is shown on Valentine's Day at 2:00 PM. This 1957 drama features Cary Grant, Deborah Kerr, Richard Denning and Robert Q. Lewis. To complete the experience, guests will be able to purchase a special treat for their sweetheart.
The 1965 epic The Greatest Story Ever Told will be shown on March 21 at 2:00 PM. Director George Stevens had an all-star cast for this retelling of the life of Jesus, including Max von Sydow, Carroll Baker, Jose Ferrer, Van Heflin, Charlton Heston, Martin Landau, Angela Lansbury, Pat Boone, David McCallum, Roddy McDowall, Dorothy McGuire, Sal Mineo, Sidney Poitier, Claude Rains, Telly Savalas, John Wayne, Shelley Winters, Ed Wynn, Robert Blake, Jamie Farr and Robert Loggia. Audience members can bring a new children's storybook to be donated to the Ronald McDonald House to receive a discounted movie ticket.
Finally, the 1961 romantic comedy Breakfast at Tiffany's will be shown on April 17 at 7:30 PM. Based on Truman Capote's writings, director Blake Edwards produced one of the best-loved movies of all time with Audrey Hepburn, George Peppard, Patricia Neal, Buddy Ebsen, Martin Balsam, Micky Rooney and Mel Blanc. The film won two Academy Awards for music, including best original song "Moon River". As a special treat, audience members will be dazzled by a sampling of stunning jewelry from the Jeweler at Hotel Hershey.
All tickets are $7.00 and are general admission only. They are available at the Hershey Theatre Box Office, which opens one hour before the film. A concert on the theatre's historic four-manual Aeolian-Skinner organ precedes the films at 7 PM.
